Diesel medium-duty trucks like Ford Superduty, Chevrolet Duramax, and Dodge Cummins models represent significant investments that demand specialized care to maintain their performance and longevity.

I’ve been working on diesel engines most of my life—in dealerships, in the oilfield, and now right here at Texas Diesel Power. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the downright confusing when it comes to what people believe about diesel trucks. And I get it. With all the online forums, DIY YouTube videos, and barstool mechanics out there, it’s easy for misinformation to spread.

So let’s set the record straight. Here are some of the most common diesel myths I’ve come across—and the truth behind them.

When your diesel truck starts acting up, one of the first decisions you face is where to take it. Many people assume a dealership is the safest bet because they’re tied to the manufacturer. Others swear by independent shops. So what’s the real difference—and how do you choose what’s best for your truck?

At Texas Diesel Power, we’re proud to be an independent shop—and here’s why that matters.

Glow plugs serve as the heart of cold weather starting for your Chevy Duramax diesel engine, creating the necessary heat to ignite diesel fuel during startup. These essential components become particularly crucial during Weatherford’s unpredictable winter months, when temperatures can drop unexpectedly across North Texas. At Texas Diesel Power, we’ve seen countless Duramax owners struggle with starting issues that trace back to failing glow plugs, especially during those chilly mornings along Fort Worth Highway. Understanding how these components work helps you recognize early warning signs before you’re stranded in a parking lot.

If you’ve ever brought your truck into a shop and left with a receipt a mile long, wondering how a simple issue turned into thousands of dollars in parts, you’re not alone. We hear stories like that all the time. And it’s one of the reasons why, at Texas Diesel Power, we take a very different approach.

We don’t just fix problems.
We find the real problem.
And that means knowing when not to replace something.

In a world where businesses often chase the bottom line, it’s easy to forget that people are what really matter, especially in the auto repair world. At Texas Diesel Power, we’ve built our reputation on a simple promise: we put people before profit.

That’s not just a slogan. It’s how we do business, every single day.

Here’s what that looks like—and why it should matter to you.

Let’s face it: no one loves spending money on truck maintenance. It’s easy to put it off, especially when everything seems to be running fine. But as diesel techs who’ve spent decades under the hood—and as a shop that believes in treating people right—we’re here to tell you: regular maintenance isn’t just good for your truck. It’s good for your wallet.

Here’s why:

If you’ve ever taken your diesel truck into a shop and been told, “Let’s try replacing this and see if it fixes it,” you’ve experienced parts-swapping. It’s one of the most common—and most expensive—mistakes in the repair world.

At Texas Diesel Power, we do things differently. We don’t guess. We don’t “try” parts. And we sure don’t pad invoices with unnecessary replacements. We diagnose.

Here’s why that matters—and what real diagnostics actually look like.
